Radboudumc faced a significant challenge with decentralized research information stored in multiple places, making it difficult for researchers to access and react to updates swiftly. The manual work required for daily tasks ate up a considerable portion of the researchers’ day, leaving them feeling like they were treading water rather than making progress. Their goal was to streamline these processes, enabling researchers to focus on what truly matters—advancing medical science.
Smart Systems, Smarter Research at Radboudumc University Medical Center
Redtag developed a custom app for Radboudumc, integrating Lightning Web Components and automated workflows to simplify research tasks. This tailored technology notably cut down on manual efforts, enabling researchers to focus more on their scientific discoveries.
Overcoming Information Overload and Manual Processes
Additionally, there was a pressing need to enhance communication between departments, ensure security policies were watertight, and comply with legislation. The objective was to move some processes to Salesforce to simplify the research project lifecycle.
Building a Seamless Research Environment
To tackle these challenges, the Redtag team, in collaboration with Growtivity, developed a custom app to automate and simplify the research processes at Radboudumc. This app generates automatic tasks based on the characteristics of each research project, significantly reducing the manual workload. The user experience was enhanced using Lightning Web Components (LWC), providing quick and easy access to related information.
Security was a top priority; therefore, access to projects was configured based on users' roles within specific projects. Numerous flows were implemented to automate actions, speeding up communication between researchers. Our solution also included automatic document generation using QUIP templates and project data. We ensured seamless integration with SharePoint, enabling automatic document uploads from the app to SharePoint folders, with access controlled by the researcher’s role.
Additionally, ValidSign was integrated to streamline the creation of new signature requests and update related records based on their status. This comprehensive solution meant that researchers could now concentrate on their core tasks without getting bogged down in administrative duties.
Tech-Powered Progress in Medical Research
Since the implementation began in December 2021, with the first department going live on January 31, 2024, and more departments set to join by July 1, 2024, the project has already shown promising results. Over 200 users are currently benefiting from the system. A multitude of manual processes have been automated, such as record generation and event notifications, which have lightened the researchers' load considerably.
Security is now robust, with access tailored to each user's role, ensuring that sensitive information is only accessible to those who need it. Easier access to all related information means that researchers can spend less time searching for data and more time making groundbreaking discoveries.
Radboudumc’s dedication to improving healthcare through pioneering research has been bolstered by this strategic technological upgrade by Redtag. Our collaboration has not only automated and streamlined their processes but also paved the way for future innovations. If your organization is looking to enhance efficiency and drive impactful results, consider leveraging advanced technology solutions like those we've implemented at Radboudumc.
